Individuals in Groups.
Something happens to individuals when they are in a group. They think ans act differently than they would on their own. Most people, if they observe some disaster or danger on their own- a woman being stabbed, a pedestrian slammed by a hit-and-run driver-will at least call for help; many will ever risk their own safety to intervene. But if they are in group observing the same danger, they hold back. The reason has more to do with nature of groups than nature of individuals.
In one experiment in behavioral psychology, student were seated in room, either alone or in groups of three, as a staged emergency occurred: smoke began pouring through the vents. Students who were on their own usually hesitated a minute, got up, checked in vents and then went out to report what certainly seemed like a fire. But the students who were sitting in groups of three did not move. They sat there for six minutes, with smoke so thick they could barely see, rubbing their eyes and coughing.
In other experiment, psychologists staged a situation in which people overheard a loud crash, a scream and a woman in pain, moaning that her ankle was broken. Seventy percent of those who were alone when the "accident" occurred went to her aid, compared with only 40 percent of those who heard her in the presence of another person.
Psychologist call this "diffusion of responsibility" or "social loafing." The more people in group, the lazier each individual in it becomes. Often, observers think nothing needs to be done because someone else has already taken care of it, and the more observers there are, the less likely any one person is to call for help.

Sample Essay Response.

People are not the same when they are in group. A person is smart, responsible, reasonable, and hard working. A person cares for others and knows his or her moral standing. People are unintelligent, scared, lazy and onlooking. People seem to think that its always some else problem. all they can do is watch so that they will do. Yes, a person is less likely to act if no one else is acting. Even if it is a moral or professional duty of person to help or act, they may fail if they feel out numbered.
Carol Tavris says from her "In groups We Shrink" that, in groups, people have, what psychologist call, "diffusion of responsibility" or "social loafing."
Experiments show that students, in group filling with smoke, would be more likely to call for help if they were alone. This is a contrary to the test with multiple students who would sit there and allow the smoke to fill the room. In a real life situation the people who do not act upon smoke is not likely to survive.
This behavior is not restricted to young college or high school students which have little life experience. In a surveillance video of parking lot, a man was stabbed and then mugged. The assailant escape leaving the man bleeding. The man gathered enough strength to stumble in front of the traffic going through the parking lot. He might have thought to himself that this would be a fast way to get help. The drivers proved him wrong. Cars would drive around him to avoid him. Perhaps these people did not want to hold traffic. Each minute wasted is more blood drained. Even a school bus carefully tried to avoid him. The man, knelt down hold his arms up with blood on them finally a lone man got out of his car and assisted the man to the hospital. It took almost an hour for someone to decide to help and it was during a gap where the savior was alone with no traffic behind him and no passenger.
At the hospital one could be treated for whatever ailments one may have. That is why the stab victim wanted to go so badly. But even at hospital there is no guarantee. At New York City hospital, a elderly woman collapsed due to heart condition in the lobby. All the people waiting watched as she hit the floor. However they returned to what ever they doing. Minutes goes by and activity around her reminded normal. Doctors were seen walking passed and then disappearing past the camera. Almost an hour passes and finally a guard is seen feeling her pulse. After ten minutes a stretcher comes to take her away. What took so long? what ever the case may be the assured thought was that some one else must be handling it.
There are cases of individuals who would help despite other people. But the general masses are always onlookers. As seen, students seem to disregard their own life from laziness. even adults and professionals are guilty of  this. This is the nature of people. That is why there are heroes in the world. There needs to be balance.

Mom,Dad,Buy the broccoli

My response to the article "Mom, Dad, Buy the Broccoli," by Editorial is that advertisements for junk foods should be cut down. The article seems to be concerned with kid’s health. The council of Better Bureaus is working out to provide healthier foods and lifestyle for kids by cutting down advertisements for selling junk foods.
I agree with author’s point of view that less advertisement leads to less junk food consume by kids. Since we all know that kids are more stubborn then adults, once they see advertisement of combo offer in McDonald then kids are dying to get it. So it’s better to cut advertisements for junk foods. It helps kids to focus in homemade cook food like broccoli, greens, vegies etc. Since kids don’t have any choices in foods, kids are force to eat healthy foods. In the same time reading books with colorful pictures of all veggies help kids to eat and love healthy foods.
Once kids have a habit with eating healthy foods they will live their life healthier. Kids can figure out changes in them self. Kids feel more energetic and smart than before. They will understand real food   taste, which they don’t get in junk foods.
Junk foods consume lots of fats, calories, sweeter etc. it leads kids to face with different diseases like diabetes, weight gain etc. So once kids have a habit with healthy foods they will get all nutrition which help kids to live in normal size and happy life.
Eat green and cook food, be healthy and wealthy. Always keep in mind that junk foods kill us.
I can compare this essay with myself. When I was new in this country I didn’t know how to cook food, so I prefer to have a junk food. I still remember that there was a big board with delicious food like pizza, burger etc. that trigger me to grab it. The taste was really good and it was easy too, so I was kind of regular customer in that store. Later on I realized that I keep gaining my weight. In the same time I feel so lazy. I consulted with my doctor. She recommended me no more junk. Junk was killing me. So I learned to cook food and always had a homemade food. It helps me to live healthy.
Healthier foods make kids smart and energetic.  It leads kids to live their life healthier.

Draft: I know the truth,so don't bother me with facts"

Tsering dicky.

“I know the Truth, So Don’t Bother Me With Facts” by Jeffrey kluger, was published in “in time” on October 29,2010. Title essay focused on people believing in rumors and flat-out-lies.
According to the kluger, March which was held in down town Manhattan, says that “human have long been dupes, easily deceived by rumors and flat-out-lies.” Research study at Ohio State says that people tent to follow false easily.
It is true and I agree with author’s point of view, that people are easily believed in rumors and flat-out-lies. People never care about the one who are suffering. They just follow the rumors, without even knowing the truth. Certain people are being viewed in suspicious way, everywhere they go. As a result those people have to struggle and prove themself as innocent. So it’s better not to judge other people without even knowing them, and nobody has any right to make their life miserable.
According to professor R.Kelly Garrett and Erik Nisbet, they will study people who believe rumor about the proposed Islamic culture. They want to check whether they will change their concept or not. If not than professor will try to convince the fact so that people who believe in rumors can go through it.
Professor Garret and Nisbet face two difficulties they said that it is easy to change people belief through changing out look or performing and strong response even in best explanation only one by third people were willing to change their decision with keeping or focusing on their point of view.
In some case because of egoistic character people stick upon their words. They never try to know the facts. In journey of teaching people not to belief In rumors and flat-out-lies, the investigators came upto studying on each people brain performance. Specially working on prefrontal context and amygdala which play an important role to solve the problem and fell certain emotion respectively.
The essay was really interesting. I am a girl from Nepal, grown up In Buddhist family. It is true that Buddha was born in Nepal In kaplivastu district. The news forecast in one of the indian news that Buddha was born in India makes me aggressive and disappointment. Actually it’s not only me, we all Nepalese people are disappointed. I joined laguardia college, where I attend CSE 099. I used a book “opining the door” there authors mention that Buddha was born in India makes me shocked. How people believe in rumors. Beside investigating and knowing truth author easily believe in rumor which is not true. The authors make it clear that many people involves in lies.
The essay was most educational. I learned that rather than believing in rumors or flats-out-lies, we have to know the truth. Telling lies and starting rumors cause trouble. It is best to be honest.

"Imitation of film: here's smoking at your, kid"

Tsering dicky

The essay title "Imitation of film: here's smoking at your, kid" by Micholas balakar was published in New York Times on November 15,2005.

The essay title focused on movies is being trigger to kids for smoke.

A nationwide survey published in November issue of pediatrics reports that children are being copying to smoke from film which they had saw. Author mentions that according to research 38% of children continue for smoking. They learn it from movies.

I agree with author point of view that research found 38% of children are being smoking and imitating from movies. It is true that young kids want to live their life fashionable. They never care about their life anything than their fashionable life. Even though they have knowledge about effect, like from smoke they just ignore it and continue to smoke for their fashionable satisfaction. They try to live their life as their favorite stars. They copy from their favorite stars; they want to be look like them. Like in appearance, attitude, the way how they live their life. I notice that this thing is being target especially from high school kids.

Dr. James D.sargent, the lead author on the study and a professor of pediatrics at Dartmouth medical school, mentions that R-rated movies are being to view about fourth or fifth grade student leads twice as much smoking than as other does.

The researchers found that “children who had the greatest exposure to smoking in movies were more than two and a half times as likely it starts smoking as those who had the lowest exposure.”

Dr. Sargent study’s results “Pertained only the youngest adolescents and that the report did not preclude the possibility that smoking began before the children saw these movies.”

Dr. sargent mentions that association should be taken very seriously regarding this thing. Since the strength of the findings and the fact are almost exactly as earlier regional studies.

It’s our responsibilities whether we are parents from home or teachers from school. We must provide our children better knowledge about disadvantage of smoke or drugs.  We can see in our society that more than 50% of our young generation is being killed by drugs or smoke. In the same time we have to stop those watching R-rated movies. Always remind them “Smoking is injuries to health”. Even while watching movie there should be ads for avoiding smoke or drugs. There should be stick rules in theater that under age are not allowed to watch R-rated movies. Dr. Sargent suggests that “association should be taken very seriously.”

It is true and I do agree that association should be taken very seriously upon it. Day by day our young kids are being killed. Instead of being a well-educated they are being killed or target from drugs. We must stop this activity.
I can compare this article with one of my cousin brother who died last year only. He was only 18 years old. We never get chance to know that he is being addicted. Since our life was really busy. He was a good boy, don’t know how it really happened, it is because of environment where is growing up or his new habit. He keep involving in drugs. He was a very fashionable. Always wants to have a new technology with him. Prefer to get up like stars. All the sudden we notice his changes. Changes like bunking classes. He was in rehab for three months. He was doing good, so he came back home but after few weeks on Thursday we found his dead body in his bed because of overdose. We lost him due to drugs.
It’s better to stop not letting under age children to watch R-rated movies and movie which expose more smoking.

Hype is a short article written by Kalle Lasn published in "in signs of life in the USA: readings on popular Culture
The title "Hype" is based on, How number of advertisements is increasing however, it does not go through where it should be. In addition, Lasn mentions about the development of technology.

Advertisement plays an important role for businessman to grow their business. Since lots of advertisement are being posted in billboard and million ads are shown in radio and television as a result it leads to prevalent and toxic of the mental pollutants.

I agree with authors point of view that "The increase in commercial advertising has happened so steadily and relentlessly that we have't quite woken up to the absurdity of it all." Instead of increasing in business, advertisements keep polluted our mind; however, it provide information about the products which we need to buy. In the same time multiply advertisements in between the interesting show keep disappointed us the viewer.

Kalle lasn mentions some examples regarding different types of ads such as,scrolls in the little window of machine in bank, ads shown on the nozzle in gas station, the most powerful micro-marketing medium. This type of advertisements are really informative, knowledgeable and helpful to people.
I salute to those technologies which really make peoples life easy.
When I was new in this country I didn't had any idea to use automated machine. I was really in trouble at the time. I didn't had any guts to ask people for help as I was a shy person, later on I realized that instruction was shown on the screen. I believe there is too much similar kind of ads for different purpose, which really helps for people who don’t have any idea to operate any technology thing like automatic machine.

My friend's brother, he is only 14 years old. He is doing his high school. He keeps asking for 5s I phone even though he have I phone 5. The advertising on television really attracts his mind. The ads make him crazy to get it. He sold his new Nick shoes, G-shock watch, games etc. He was ready to sale more stuff but before he does so his parents know about it. His parents was disappoint with him because of his behavior.

Therefore, I feel that too much hype is not beneficial. Especially for young generation.

I don't think i am living in matrix because the life style in matrix is different. Life in matrix is base on computer. We have to work according to computer which is control by some one else. My life move according to my response no one control my life. In the movie Matrix Neo and his team including moopheus they all are controlled by computer. If i have a choice to choose blue or red pill i prefer to have a blue pill. Taking a blue pill means living in ordinary place. From the day i was born i am here in my own world with my friends, family and siblings. I don't want to disappear from them. Specially from my parents who provide me a luxury life. They face too many ups and downs but never fail to fulfill our requirements. My wish is to stay with my parents as long as i can and take care of  them.

Most of people do not want freedom.

I want freedom in my life. In my opinion freedom makes people more confident. Living freedom means living independent life. If we have freedom we can define what is the real life. According to my experience i can define real life as a combination of both comfort and uncomfort life through financially, emotionally and mentally. For me freedom exist  in my life from the day i am here in New york. living freedom life is not easy, but you will feel more better and proud of your self. You can make your own  identity. Back home i was totally dependent on my parents. My daily routine was home to school. My parents fulfill my all requirements. I don't need to worry about it. I don't need to work for income. My life was in heaven but never get satisfy as i get these days. I am here in N.Y from 4 years. At beginning it was really hard don't know what to do, everything was new. The title essay "The Dangers Of Reality T.V" by Timothy sexton focused that reality tv is bad for many reasons. The author writes that reality shows mostly provide unwanted messages to the youth. Reality shows focused  "on competition, the value of image over ability, and the obsolescence of education." From my point of view how ever i prefer education rather than competition. We need knowledge to participate in competition. If we don't have knowledge than we can't participate in reality show like "who want to be millinoer". In this reality show they ask more about General Knowledge, Political etc. so how come that education is useless in reality show.
Timothy mentions that reality T.v focused on competition and believe that competition is the main key of succeeded or main way to earn more money in short period of time.It is true that in competition judges or public who gave vote, they looks more on out-fit rather than ability. It seems to me that personal out-fit or image play more important role in reality shows rather than ability.
As reality shows give more important on competition and image they keep message to the youth that "education is completely unnecessary to fulfill American dream." It seems to me that education is the main key for succeeded. Even though student life is full of stress and painful, always work on assignments, test, exam, research but believe me it is a golden life. life we spent in school is a valuable time for us. In school we get chance to meet with different types of people. we get chance to make friends, every day we get chance to learn new lesson. we have a wonderful teachers in school. But if we have guts, guts to get in reality show like "Fear Factor" we will easily earn more money at short period of time. And don't need to face stress and pain as we have to do in education. Reality shows try to convince the society to believe in power of reality shows. And if someone asked question or argue about education then it's just come out that "well..... hey, i think who wants to marry an idol survivor who danced with a skating celebrity named Gotti is on."
The tittle essay "The Dangers of Reality TV" was intersecting, and came to know how reality shows  focused on competition rather than education.
I am disagree with the author's point of view that "education is completely unnecessary to fulfill the american dream." we need education in every stage of our life. Education gives us knowledge and a degree which possible get a better jobs in future. Even though education is a long processed to get successed but the wealth we earn from education remain us forever specially in america. Without education life is like a person without eye, blind.
Comparing these essay with my own life i always prefer to have a better education rather then participating in competition.
My sister is doing her RNA program in Laguardia community college. From very beginning she gives more important to education. Every semester she gives her 100% as a result she get better result in her exam. I learn from her that education is more important in our life. It leads us in bright future. Through education we get a degree and eventually we will get better job in future. I notice that people who have a nursing degree they have a high income and additionally they get benefits in future. They have there own identity with respect. So keeping these thing in my mind i am focusing in my education even though it's my beginning and difficult i'm doing my best i don't want to step back.
We always keep in mind that reality TV shows give us entertainment. They never provide us any kind of degree, so education play important role in our life.

The article "Truman Show Syndrome: why people think they're living in a reality show"  by
Colin Lecher focus on the effect that people living in reality show.
One of the question was asked by a New Yorker article on the "Truman Show" that "What do you do when delusions and paranoia look an awful lot like real world?" People always keep believe in reality show and how the show make them famous. But they never realize that the life in reality show are not true. people in reality show have to live with unknown drama. They never get chance to live in normal life.
"Truman Show Syndrome is a new phenomenon, but delusions of type are not. People have always imagine things that are." It's true that development in technology leads to change in delusions. Lecher mentions that "in the nineteen-forties, the Japanese controlled American minds with radio waves; in the fifties, the Soviets accomplished this with satellites; in the seventies, the C.I.A. implanted computer chips into people brains. And today's delusion-fuel?"
Based on "Truman Show" i agree that the reality show really make us sick. It makes our life living in a prisoner.
I feel Truman life in "Truman Show" is related with one of my friend's life. who was living in unreal world as Truman did in his show. she was unknown for things going around her. she was a nice person. she loves to help people. And she always respect and trust her parents. But all the certain she totally change, since she  was suffering from her unknown life. That when she was kid she was engaged with a guy who was 30 years old. And soon she will going to marry with that guy. Her parents never let know her about her engaged and up coming event, until she fell suspicious.when she came to know that her suspicious came true, she was really shocked. she never realize that her parents will do this with her. At end she decided to skip from unreal world which she never know about that and neither she believe on it. she mention me that she is out from prison now. And she is living in real world. I notice that she never try to trust people which she did before. since from that incident the words trust go away from her mind.
Title article "Truman Show Syndrome" was most educational. I learn that people in reality show are being suffering from fack life.

The Truman 24 hours live show, based on Truman real life. Truman was been captured in camera from the day he was born. The hidden camera keep follow him in every stage of his life. His life was run by producer christof and his team. Supported by his family, paid wife and his childhood best friend. To whom he Trust and share everything and feel comfortable. Their friendship was not only base on friendship they was like brotherhood. This was unknown for Truman. Poor Truman always blame himself for his dad death. He think he kill his dad because of his stubborn. In the same time he is always willing to visit Fiji, place where his love was there. But as show must go on, Christof make multi mess condition upon transportation which was impossible for him to visit there.
There are certain capture that I really feel christof and the television network are similar to god. In a show, accident occurred in water where Truman lost his dad. In my belief water, fire and wind they are not exist by man. They are god gifted and exist by only nature. We human being can’t do anything for this stuff. But here in show, in order from christof and with the help from technology television network create really heavy wind and big storm killed his dad.  Eventually playing with universal truth, at night he make the world bright and sunny, in search of Truman.
The exploitation occurred in ocean may lead real death of Truman’s dad. But it was not by Mother Nature (by God) like sandy or hurricane. He was saving. There was a rescue to save him.

As comparing my life with Socrates description of cave I will compare it with leaving the cave. I agree with Socrates description that mention in leaving cave. I grow up in a strict family. My life was stocked between home and school. I was not allowed to hang out, late night, parties. My life was imprisonment in cave. But from the day when I am here in New York my life is totally different. I am free now. I am independent. I am an employee, a student. I go to parties, hang out with friends. on the same time i am learning new thing every day. At beginning it was really taught and stressful for me but as time pass and my regular involvement make me use to with this stuff and make it more easy. Now I feel good and enjoying my life each and everyday. Even though life is busy and stress I prefer leaving cave rather then imprisonment in side the cave.

Summary of the Allegory of the cave:

The authors explain about the situation of those people who live inside the cave, leaving the cave and return to the cave.

Inside the cave:

Inside the cave, prisoners are being fixed. They are been chained their legs, arms and their necks are fixed. That’s why they are looking to wall forced. “Behind the prisoners is an enormous fire and the prisoners is a raised walkway.” For them clever person are those who can figure out what come first at shadows. They usually walk on with figure of man and animal made of wood, stone and other materials on their heads. They do not believe on real man and goes with shadow and echo for real sound.

Leaving the cave:

Authors describe the problem suffered by prisoner who came out from cave. He mentions that prisoners will be in stress and blind for some time but as time pass out he will be used to and will enjoy the real life. Real life which is base on reality, and will be received in all phase of our life.

 Return to the cave:
Prisoner who returns to the cave fell stupid to those Man who believe prisoner life.  Since he already know what real life and how it is based on reality. He enjoy his life in reality than prisoner one and dont want to go back inside the cave.

I know the Truth, So Don't Bother Me With Facts by Jeffrey Kluger, was published in "In Time" on October 29,2010.
According to Kluger, a march which was held in downtown Manhattan, says that "Humans have long been dupes, easily deceived by rumor and flat-outs-lies."Yes it is true that from long time people are easily believe in rumors and flat-outs-lies. Research study at Ohio state says that people tent to follow the false easily.

They want change whether the fact will change their concept or not. If not then professor will try to convince the fact so that people who believe in rumors can go through it.
While, it is true that people never try to understand the reality and facts, once they get information with incident happening than they stick with that fact even though it's not true. They never realize how people suffer from their belief. Recently i watch a bollywood movie, "My Name is Khan but im not a terrorist." which actually base on how Muslim family suffer after 9/11 in their living life. The family are being suffering from suspicious where ever they go and being living their life in a bad impression in community. The hero a muslim man, he is a innocent and a simple man. Even though he is a innocent and simple he is always target from those people who believe in rumors that all Muslims are terrorist. which is not true. The movie really touch me.
Professor Garret and Nisbet face two difficulties they said that It is easy to change people belief through changing out look or performing strong response. and even in a best circumstance only one by third people were willing to change their decision with keeping or focusing on their point of view.
In some case because of egoistic character people stick upon their words. They never try to know the facts. In journey of teaching people, not to belief in rumors and flat-outs-lies, the investigators came up to studying on each people brain performance. specially working on their prefrontal cortext and amygdala which play an important role to solve problem and fell certain emotion respectively.
According to my my knowledge regarding prefrontal context and amygdala, prefrontal context lie on the front part of our brain. It's main function is to solve problem responding upon the data through senses. It  play important role to make decision whether it it is right or wrong. Amygdala it is an almond shape. it help to feel emotion and shows in human behavior. it play an important role in people personality.
To make any decision people must go with detail, truth and facts rather than  believing in rumors and flat-outs-lies.

I Know The Truth, So Don't Bother Me With Facts.

The tread which was held in downtown Manhattan announced that People easily believe in rumors and flat- out-lies. Research studies that people tent to follow the false easily. Professor study that people who believe in rumors about Islamic cultural center, they want to check that the fact will change their concept or not. If not then professor will try to convince the fact so that people who believe in rumors can go through it. Two difficulties for Garret and Nisbet while convincing the fact to the people are: “it is easy it to manipulate people’s belief system with insinuating picture or inflammatory quotes;” and “ even in the best of circumstances, fewer than a third of people were willing to reverse their positions, regardless of the contradictory evidence they were.” In some case because of egotistic character people stick upon their words they never try to understand the facts. "Hype" is a short passage by kalle lasn, published in "in signs of life in the U.S.A: Readings on popular culture" where kalle describes that how advertisement take place in people mind and the development in technology.
It is true that multi number of ads keep our mind confuse regarding effective and efficient of product, and also multi advertisement in between the interesting show keep disappoint us the viewer.
kalle describes how development in technology  take place in his passage. He mentions the ads scrolls in the little window of machine in bank, ads shown on the nozzle in gas station, the most powerful micro-marketing medium. which is really informative, knowledgeable and helpful to people. Actually i salute to those technology which really makes people life easy. when i was new in this country i didn't have any idea to use automated machine. I was really in trouble at that time. I didn't have any guts to ask people for help as i am shy person later i realize that instruction were shown on the screen. I believe there are too many similar kind of ads for different purpose, which really help for people who don't have any idea to operate any technology thing like automatic machine.
We customer need right information  to buy any stuff from store or  online or any place and i am sure we can get that information through advertisement ads which shown in television, radio and display.
I agree with the author points of view that too many advertisement make our mind polluted with number of ideas and choices but i also belief that advertisement ads guide us through better knowledge and provide more information about certain product which make us easy to get right one and ofcourse development in technology make life more easier and useful.
